The weather in Tibet is characterized by its unique and extreme climatic conditions. Owing to its location on the Tibetan Plateau, also known as the "Roof of the World." The region’s high altitude and thin air create a cold and severe environment.
During winters, temperatures can plummet well below freezing, and snowfall is common, particularly in the higher elevations. Summers are brief and mild, with moderate to warm temperatures during the day and a significant drop in temperature at night. Given the high altitude, visitors must protect themselves from the sun's strong UV radiation. During your Tibet tour, you will have the opportunity to experience a diverse range of meals that reflect the unique culinary traditions of the region. In Tibet, you will have the chance to savor traditional Tibetan meals that are typically based on staple ingredients such as barley, yak meat, dairy products, and various vegetables. Tsampa, a roasted barley flour, is a common ingredient used in many Tibetan dishes and is often served as a staple food.
Yak meat, being a staple in Tibetan cuisine, is often incorporated into various dishes, including stews, soups, and Momos (Tibetan dumplings). These Momos are typically filled with a combination of minced yak meat, vegetables, and spices, and are served steamed or fried.
Dairy products also play a significant role in Tibetan cuisine. Yak butter tea, known as “po cha”, is a popular and traditional Tibetan beverage. It is made by churning tea with yak butter and salt, resulting in a rich and creamy flavor.
