Lhasa literally translates to “place of gods”, situated at an elevation of 3,600 meters on the central part of the Tibetan Plateau surrounded by mountains of 5,500 meters. Lhasa is a pilgrimage dream and the heart and soul of Tibet and an ultimate destination for explorers. A city was frozen in time full of wonders, despite the large-scale encroachments of modern Chinese influence.

The Lhasa tour begins and ends in the heart of Tibet, Lhasa, and covers popular landmarks of this beautiful city such as the Dalai Lama’s Potala and Norbulingka Palaces, the Tibet Museum, and Barkhor Bazaar. You’ll also be visiting a number of ancient Tibetan monasteries in Lhasa like Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery, and Jokhang Temple followed by a trip to the outskirts of Lhasa where you’ll be visiting the 15th century Ganden Monastery and the Drayerpa Cave, a meditative sanctuary for Tibetan monks.

Itinerary

The flight into Tibet is mesmerizing, with views of the high Himalayan plateau, Once you arrive at the Gonggar Airport in Lhasa, Tibet’s administrative capital and one of the highest cities in the world, meet with your representative from the Alpine Club of Himalaya and your Tibetan guide.
If you fly into Lhasa from Nepal, you'll enjoy an hour of breathtaking views of the endless Himalayan ranges which are considered one of the most beautiful aerial routes in the world. If you choose to travel via mainland China, you may fly in or take the world’s highest train route to Lhasa.
Once you're done with immigration at Lhasa head towards your accommodation and rest. It is advised to rest for the day to adjust to the high altitude and minimize altitude sickness, as Lhasa is at an elevation of about 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) and lies in the center of the Tibetan Plateau surrounded by mountains rising to 5,500 meters (18,000 feet), the air only contains 68 percent of oxygen, and can be a problem for some travelers.

Lhasa is the cultural capital of Tibet and has various ancient Palaces, Monasteries filled with rugged landscapes and snowy mountains. After breakfast head towards these attractions. First, you'll be visiting the Potala Palace this 17th-century Palace is now a museum and World Heritage Site. The building measures 400 meters east-west and 350 meters north-south, with sloping stone walls that have copper poured into the foundations to help against earthquake strikes. The palace has thirteen stories containing over 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines, and about 200,000 statues, and is situated at 117 meters (384 feet) on top of Marpo Ri, the “Red Hill”, rising more than 300 m (about 1,000 feet) in total above the valley floor providing an awesome view of the entire city and distance Plateaus.
After exploring Potala Palace head towards Norbulingka Palace, literally translated to "Jeweled Park" situated on the west side of Lhasa, a short distance to the southwest of Potala Palace. Norbulingka is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lama. This 7th-century complex has the largest man-made garden in Tibet. Next, you'll be visiting the Tibet Museum, the official museum of Tibet, which has a permanent collection of around 1000 artifacts related to the cultural history of Tibet.
Overnight in Lhasa.

In the morning, head towards Ganden Monastery, one of the “great three” Gelug university monasteries of Tibet located at the top of Wangbur Mountain at an elevation of 4,300 meters. Ganden Monastery has extremely delicate and fine murals and sculptures, with more than two dozen major chapels with large Buddha statues. The monastery also houses artifacts that belonged to Tsongkhapa, including his tomb. It also has an armor suit decorated with gems worn by Emperor Qianlong, which was bestowed to the monastery as an offering to Tsong Khapa, founder of the Gelug sect.
After exploring the Monastery, you'll head towards Drayerpa Cave located in a beautiful valley with a stunning landscape, about 35 kilometers from the city of Lhasa. Drayerpa Cave consists of more than 30 caves used for meditations by Lamas and around two hours of time is required to visit all of the caves after exploring the cave head towards your accommodation back in Lhasa.

Today you'll be visiting the Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Bazaar. The Drepung Monastery was built in the 14th century and has sheltered around 10,000 monks in the past. The history, culture, and religious beliefs of the Tibetan people are strongly concentrated and centered in this marvelous monastery. Next head towards, The Sera Monastery a well-preserved monastery with white-washed walls and golden roofs. Next head to, Jokhang Temple another sacred site that unravels more deep-seated mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism.
Afterward, stroll through the Barkhor Bazaar (market). With its open-air stalls, shops, and crowds of pilgrims, at the epicenter of Lhasa, chat along with friendly locals learning about their way of life and culture.

    Mr Sujan help us to select this tour as per our interest. He did the best job by planning this tour. During this tour, we were able to Explore Lhasa Tour, the shortest possible tour of Lhasa, is very popular amongst international travelers. We visited Dalai Lama’s Potala and Norbulingka Palaces, the Tibet Museum and Barkhor Bazaar. We also visited a number of impressive Tibetan monasteries in Lhasa like Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery and Jokhang Temple. They were all amazing monasteries with a history and religious relevance of their own. This trip also took us further to the outskirts of Lhasa where we visited the 15th century Ganden Monastery and explore the Drayerpa Cave, which is still a meditative sanctuary for Tibetan monks. I would like to recommend Alpine to my friends and family.
