This spiritual voyage to the sacred, Muktinath temple is ideal for those who do not have enough time and are not content with long days of hiking. This gripping jeep adventure goes through one of the tamest areas with excellent lodges lining the main route. The region is one of the famous trekking trails of Nepal, attracting about 75% of all trekkers. Enjoy the aromatic high-altitude forest, attractive alpine meadows, and semi-barren land like that of the Tibetan plateau along with the genuinely remarkable scene. Apart from nature the rich cultures and traditions you encountered during the journey are unbelievable.

Starting of Our Tour

The Jomsom-Muktinath Jeep adventure tour starts with a long drive from Kathmandu following the winding roads of the Prithvi Highway. Passing several settlements dotted on riversides and hilltops you will reach Tatopani. Tatopani nestles a Himalayan hot spring. Soak in the healing waters of the hot spring, and the next day head towards Jomsom. Traveling along the Kali Gandaki corridor with views of high cliffs and mountains reach the bustling settlement of Jomsom. Jomsom is an ancient village perched at the banks of the Kali Gandaki river with majestic views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri on the backdrop. From, Jomsom traversing along a well-maintained road head towards Muktinath. At Muktinath visit the Muktinath Temple and witness the grand views of the landscape. Here learn about the culture, traditions, and legends of the people.

The following day head back towards Jomsom and along grand views of the Himalayas and the rock red cliffs of Mustang. Upon reaching Jomsom head on a short hike to Dumba Lake. The lake fed by the glaciers of Mount Nilgiri sits at an elevation of 2830 meters. The next day head on a long drive towards Pokhara and eventually to Kathmandu.

Entry and Permits

The following permits are required.

  • ACAP entry permit fee for foreigners: 3,000 NPR (Approx. US $30)
  • ACAP entry permit fee for Indian nationals: 2000 NPR

TIMS Permit :

  • NRP 1,000 per person for organized treks through an agency
  • NRP 2,000 per person for independent trekkers (going without a guide or porter)

Note: All the trekking permits are handled by the Alpine Club of Himalaya.

Meals and drinking water:

Along the Annapurna Region Trek, you will be provided with various Nepali, and Tibetan ethnic cuisines, and varieties of continental as well as Western meals. The local inhabitants run several tea-houses along the trail, offering basic to luxury facilities. This provides trekkers with the opportunity to taste various cuisines, a rarity on most Nepali trekking trails.

Annapurna Region is a plastic-free zone and has banned the use of bottled Mineral Water. While untreated natural water supplies are accessible from taps along the trekking trail, direct consumption is not recommended. Instead, you can refill your bottles with boiling water or cold filtered water from any of the teahouses along the trail.

If you buy a water purification tablet, chlorine drops or utilize SODIS (sunlight assisted) filtration procedures for further assurance, saving money, and reducing plastic pollution.

Accommodation:

Tourist-friendly hotels, lodges, and local accommodations are available on trekking trails and, providing with basic accommodation to luxury and grandeur ones. Luxury hotels and teahouse are situated along the trail that suits your budgets providing comfortable beds with a pillow, electric blankets, hot and cold shower, free WIFI, and many more.

Teahouse along Annapurna region provides you with hot shower, western attached bathrooms and the rooms mostly include twin sharing beds as well as a single bed, with hygienic and clean atmosphere, good mattresses, a pillow, and blankets.

Campsites are also available along the trail providing a special opportunity for campers to sleep under the stars.

Best Time to Visit?

The best season for trekking in Annapurna Region is during autumn and spring.

The months of September, October, November, March, April, and May are the best time to visit. These months are better in terms of visibility and climate conditions.

Autumn season, the months of September, October, and November are one of the best times for trekking in this region. As the weather is clear bringing great visibility of the endless mountain ranges and lush green forest with warm temperatures, the nights are clear and is a perfect opportunity for stargazing.

The spring season of March, April, and May is also the best time to visit the Annapurna Region. The end of the winter season brings a change in the region, varieties of colorful blooming trees of the sub-alpine forest, high green pasture lands covered with wildflowers, mild temperatures, and clear weather. In this season you will witness herds of sheep and yaks grazing in the green high lands.

Monsoon season is not favorable as the weather gets harsh and it’s hard to get around the country, with frequent rainstorms and landslides. So, monsoon season is mostly avoided by trekkers.

Winter season, Annapurna Region receives high snowfall covering most of trails and making it impossible to travel for this reason.

Travel Insurance:

All clients participating in any activity must have travel insurance. A trustworthy insurance company can provide you with a comprehensive insurance plan that covers personal injury, death, hospital expenditures, repatriation fees, helicopter rescue, and any other disease. We strongly recommend acquiring such a plan.

Passport and Visa:

Every client must have a valid passport from the return date with a 6 months prior validity by the Nepalese consulate in your country or immigration office at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Kathmandu Valley

After breakfast head towards Tatopani, on the twisted road of Prithvi Highway, following the rapids of the Trishuli river and eventually the mighty Marsyangdi river. After four hours of drive, you will reach the city of lakes Pokhara. From Pokhara head towards Tatopani, the ride takes you following the hills of central Nepal, with views of the Himalayas. Following the route, you will reach Beni, from here following an offroad track of Kali Gandaki Corridor you will eventually reach Tatopani. Tatopani translates as hot water, and the region has various Himalayan hot water springs. Upon reaching Tatopani leave your heavy backpacks at your accommodation and head out towards the hot spring and soak in the healing waters.

muktinath
Muktinath Temple

Wake up early and head on a scenic drive towards Muktinath. Following the rapids of the Kali Gandaki river from high roads. Pass through various scenic villages with breathtaking landscapes. After about 5 hours drive you will reach the village of Marpha. At Marpha stop for a while, to explore the Apple orchards and try various apple cuisines.

From, Marpha an hour’s drive will take you to Jomsom. An ancient settlement on the banks of the Kali Gandaki river overlooking the soaring peaks of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. After a brief rest head towards the Muktinath temple. A short drive will eventually lead to Muktinath, after a brief stop head towards the Muktinath temple.

A brief ascent on a series of stairs will lead to the temple complex. The temple of Muktinath is situated at an elevation of 3,800 meters making it one of the highest temples in the world. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is a sacred pilgrimage site to both Hindus and Buddhist, devotees and is visited by a large number of pilgrims throughout the year. Although the main pilgrimage normally takes place in September. Another attraction nearby is the Jwala Mai Temple where an eternal flame fed by natural underground gas is present. From the temple witness grand views of the landscape, brown and grey hills, and snowcapped mountains at a distance. After exploring the temple head back down towards your accommodation.

After breakfast head down towards Jomsom. Along the way witness views of rocky red hills and ancient cave networks. Upon reaching Jomsom after a brief rest head on a hike towards Dhumba Lake. Traversing across pine woodlands for about 3 to 4 hours.
Fed by the glaciers of Mount Nilgiri, the lake sits at an elevation of 2830 meters on the backdrop of the Himalayas. The lake is considered sacred by Buddhists and Hindu pilgrims. According to legends, the blue waters of the lake changed their colors to red and a monk performed rituals and turned it back to its natural color. The lake is also a paradise for birdwatchers as various migratory birds come here. After exploring the lake retrace your steps back to Jomsom.

pokhara
Pokhara: Phewa Lake

Wake up before dawn and witness majestic views of the sunrise. After breakfast head on a long drive towards Pokhara. Traversing across steep hills, and lush woodlands, and passing various settlements you will eventually reach Pokhara. At, Pokhara after some refreshment head out to explore the region. Stroll the banks of Phewa Lake and later explore the various pubs and restaurants of the region.

After breakfast head towards Kathmandu valley following the winding roads of Prithvi Highway. Upon reaching Kathmandu head towards your accommodation. Later in the evening join in for a farewell dinner program that marks the end of your adventure.
