The region has various attractions to choose from. Start by exploring the Phewa Lake, the second largest lake in Nepal. The lake nestled at the backdrops of the might the Himalayas and surrounded by lush networks of rolling hills. Stroll by the banks and witness the lake changing its colors providing aesthetic calmness. On the eastern side of the lake, visit the various restaurants and pubs. Also head on a boating trip to Phewa Lake, visiting Tal Barahi Temple, located at the center on a tiny island. One of the most important religious monuments of Pokhara dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Next, explore David’s Fall Locally known as Paatal Ko Chango meaning “Underworld’s Waterfall”. A charming little waterfall located about 2 km southwest of the Pokhara Airport on the Siddhartha Highway. Near David’s Fall visit the Gupteshwar Gupha, a mysteriously sacred cave that holds unique value for Hindus. Where a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva was discovered in a perfectly preserved condition. The water from David’s Fall forms a tunnel after reaching the bottom and passes through this cave network. Explore the complex cave network and witness the bottom of David’s Fall.
Further head towards Bindhyabasini Temple. The oldest religious shrine in Pokhara was built in the 16th century. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga, where Hindu worshippers flock to perform sacrifices, especially on Saturdays.
Further head towards Mahendran Gupha and Chameri Gupha. Mahendran Gupha is a rare cave system in Nepal containing stalagmites and stalactites. This cave was discovered in the 1950s by shepherds of Pokhara. The former name of the cave was ‘Adhero Bhawan’ which means Dark Habitat. Nestled at 1100 meters above sea level, the cave corridors are completely dark with continuously dripping water overhead. The cave consists of about 100m of easily accessible passages and a further 100m of low unstable corridors making it perfect habitat for species of bats and invertebrates.
Chameri Gupha known as Bat Cave surrounded by forest sits close to the Mahendran Gupha. The cave formed of limestone has only one entrance and exit. The U-shaped cave consists of various carvings of Hindu deities. The cave network is home to various species of Bats. Up to 18 species of bats appear in the cave during the months of winter.
Next, visit the Seti Gandaki Gorge. The river network carved a deep, narrow chasm through the middle of town. The milky water at various points is barely two meters wide and cuts a deep, narrow valley. The right spot for watching the Gorge is Mahendran Pul, a small bridge at the center of the city.
Then head towards the World Peace Pagoda a symbol of peace. Nestled at the height of 1100 meters on the top of Anadu Hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. The Buddhist shrine is a high vantage point that offers spectacular panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Phewa Lake and Pokhara City. Shanti Stupa is the first World Peace Pagoda in Nepal standing at 115 feet tall and 344 feet in diameter.
Finally, explore the Old Bazaar. Situated just 4 km away from Phewa Lake, it is a traditional bazaar and an exciting gathering place for an ethnically diverse group of traders. The temples and monuments bear a close resemblance to the Newari architecture of Kathmandu Valley and retain much of their original charm.
