This Everest and Sherpa Homeland Trek is for anyone who loves the mountains. Getting deeper insights into the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the locals. The Everest region has always been a wonder for trekkers and travelers. A region clinging to the foothills of the highest peaks of the world. In this trek travel across great landscapes, and isolated routes visit several monasteries, and villages getting raw and true information about the mountain people.

Overview:

Everest trek besides for its proximity to the world’s highest mountain. Furthermore, is famous for its friendly Sherpa people, picturesque villages, a great variety of cultures and traditions, colorful festivals, and monasteries.

The Everest and Sherpa Homeland Trek starts with a picturous flight from Kathmandu towards the hilltop settlement of Lukla. The gateway to Everest. Starting from the north end of Lukla head towards the settlement of  Phakding. Furthermore following the Dudh Koshi Valley trail. Traversing through the hillside, past farmlands, fields, and several Sherpa settlements you will reach Namche Bazar. Regarded as the Sherpa capital and the economic hub of the Khumbu region. At Namche, you will have your acclimatization day off visiting various attractions around the region.

Head towards Tengboche

From Namche Bazar, head towards Thame, a settlement nestled at a junction along the old primary trade route to and from Tibet. Next head towards the settlement of Tengboche, where you will be visiting the Tengboche Monastery. The largest monastery in the Khumbu region. Besides witnessing the mountain panorama that includes the entire gamut of lower and middle Khumbu peaks-Kangtega, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Taboche, Kwangde, and Tengkangboche-and the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge on the northeast with Everest.

From Tengboche, head towards Khumjung and explore the Khumjung Monastery. Lastly, attend to the monks chanting sacred texts and practicing rituals. Next head towards Phortse, traversing across lush woodlands of Rhododendron. Along the way catch views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku. The settlement of Phortse lies in the heart of the Khumbu region off the main trekking routes.

Form Phortse head towards Pangboche. At Pangboche, explore the Pangboche Gompa and witness the grand beauty of the Gompa. The oldest monastery in the region, established in the 16th century, was rebuilt in 1667. Not to be missed is the footprint of Lama Sangwa Dorje. Next, head towards the village of Tengboche. Where visit the Tengboche monastery the largest monastery in the Everest region. Explore the beautiful architecture of the monastery and attend to monks chanting text. From Tengboche head back towards Namche Bazaar and towards Lukla. From Lukla catch a flight towards Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Once you arrive at Kathmandu international airport. A representative from the Alpine Club of Himalaya will assist you with your hotel. In the evening attend a welcome dinner program where excellent authentic Nepalese cuisine will be served, which will introduce you to the Nepalese food culture.

Kathmandu: Thamel

After breakfast, head on a guided tour of the city. To several historical and spiritual attractions which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Explore the historic Places of Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ of Swayambhunath, and the Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath, which is also one of the largest stupas in the world. After the tour, join in for a short orientation regarding the trek.

Phakding

After breakfast, head towards the domestic terminal for an early morning flight to Lukla. Flying parallel with the mountains and with views of lush rolling hills, which is regarded as one of the most beautiful air routes in the world. Upon landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla, after a brief rest start your trek towards Phakding.
Traversing across the deep wilderness, descending over terrace farms and agriculture belts crossing various settlements head towards Phakding. On the trail visit the ancient Gompa of Drangdrak Gompa and Pema Choling Gompa, with views of sacred mountain Kumbila and the sister summit Kusum Kanguru peak on the backdrop. After exploring the Gompas head towards Phakding.

Namche Bazaar

After breakfast, start your trek by walking through a beautiful section of Rhododendron and Pine forests. As you head out of the canopy you will be traversing alongside the Dudh Koshi River. After walking for an hour or so you will come across the glistening Mt. Thamserku (6,608m) on the right and woodlands of pine, fir, and juniper forests throughout our journey. Also, catch the glimpse of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge.
Progressing on the trail you will reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. After your permits are checked head on an uphill climb towards Namche Bazaar. Along with this section witness grand views of the landscapes and the mountains. Upon reaching Namche head toward your tea house, and later head to explore the region.

Namche Bazaar

Today is your acclimatization day. At higher altitudes due to the presence of thin air proper acclimatization is very important for your body to adapt. Today you will be heading on various small hikes in and around Namche Bazaar.
Hike up to Everest View Hotel to enjoy admirable views of the Himalayan vista. From the Hotel catch a glorious view of the beautiful landscape filled with evergreen fir trees, shrubs, and endless rhododendron forests and offers a 360-degree view of the awe-inspiring Himalayas.
After soaking in the views, on your way back to Namche, head towards the Khumjung Monastery. The monastery house, what is to be believed as a Yeti scalp. After exploring the ancient monastery, visit the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park and observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture, and learn about the biodiversity of the Everest region.

Start your trek traversing along the west part of the valley, following the Bhote Khosi River. Along with this section witness views of Kongde Ri (6187m), Khumbi Yul La (5765m), Kusum Kanguru (6,373m), and endless other snowy peaks. As you progress on the trail you will cross the settlement of Phorte, here visit the tree nursery established by Sir Edmund Hillary’s Himalayan Trust.
Continuing along the trail, crossing a suspension bridge and traversing on an uphill section you will reach the settlement of Thame. The village is nestled at a junction along the old primary trade route to and from Tibet via the Nangpa La Pass.

Khumjung

After breakfast head into the trial, climbing towards the famous airstrip of Syangboche. From Syangboche get a view of the Everest View Hotel, one of the highest located hotels with great views of the highest mountains on Earth. From here a steep 250 meters ascent will get you to the settlement of Khumjung. The Khumjung valley is surrounded by the Himalayas including Kongde, Thamserku, and the sacred Khumbila.
After leaving your heavy backpacks at the tea house head out to explore Khumjung village. Visit the Edmund Hillary School and Khumjung Monastery. The Monastery is set on the backdrop of Everest, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Explore the Monastery and look for yourself what is believed to be a scalp of Yeti. Later attend to the monks chanting scared text and practicing rituals. After exploring the Monastery head back towards your tea house and catch mesmerizing views of the sunset.

Phortse

Following the lower slopes of Khumbila with mesmerizing views of Phortse, Cholatse, and Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtanga. Along the way traverse across lush woodlands of Rhododendron. Gaining altitude catch the views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The settlement of Phortse lies in the heart of the Khumbu region, south of Mt. Everest, off the main trekking routes.

Pangboche

Today’s trek is short, but you will be traversing along high cliffs and ridges gaining altitude. As, you gain altitude get views of the Tengboche Monastery, where mountaineers receive blessings from the head lama for a safe summit. Trekking across a ridge section extraordinary views of the landscape head towards Pangboche.
At Pangboche, visited a different monastery, Pangboche Gompa – the oldest monastery in the region. It was established in the 16th century and rebuilt in 1667. The monastery is covered with colorful murals of various manifestations of the Buddha covering the walls. There were grand almost throne-like chairs for the head lamas and walls with cubbies containing cotton scrolls of ancient texts translated from Sanskrit into Tibetan that the monks read to the villagers during an annual festival that takes place in autumn. Not to be missed is the footprint of Lama Sangwa Dorje.

From Pangboche, head towards the eastern trail which joins with the main trail towards the Everest Base Camp. Traversing along lush woodlands descend to Tengboche, a village with a panoramic 360-degree view of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.
Upon reaching Tengboche head towards Tengboche monastery which is the largest monastery in the Everest region. The monastery nestles at the backdrop of beautiful snowy peaks. The monastery opens at 3 pm. Explore the monastery and start conversations with the monks. If you are lucky, you might just be able to witness a cultural ceremony.

Namche Bazaar

From Tengboche, traverse along the hillside blanketed with rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer flag festooned bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, follow the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through the lush pine forests before reaching Sansa, which is a major trail junction in the region. From here the trail clings to the steep wooded slope, winding through several bends. After passing a Chorten, and an army camp you will reach the settlement of Namche Bazaar.

Today most of the trail is on a downward section. So, take it slow and have frequent rests. Once you cross the suspension bridges over the fast-flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, the trail becomes level. Upon arrival in Lukla, after a brief rest celebrate the success of your trek with your teammates.

Catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after the long mountain journey. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If you wish to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we will do it today. Our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping and sightseeing. To celebrate the successful completion of your journey, attend a farewell dinner program in the evening.
