Druk Path Trek – 13 Days

Arrive at Kathmandu International Airport where you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and check in to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore this historic and vibrant city. Meals:Welcome Dinner

We go for visiting around some of the most famous places around Kathamndu. These include: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Syambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple – Hindu Temple & Bouddha Nath – (The biggest Buddha Stupa in ancient Kathmandu).The rest of the day we spend by preparing for the other day’s trek to Bhutan. We take a flight to Paro. If we are flying in from Kathmandu or Delhi, the flight over the Himalayas is one of the most spectacular experiences one will ever experience. We will fly past Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga and the entire Himalayan range visible on the left side. Our representative will be there to receive us and do the customs and immigrations formalities. We start hiking to Taktsang monastery (Tiger Nest). The climb up to the viewpoint will take around 3 hours. We can enjoy the stunning view of the monastery where Guru Padmasambava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century, and meditated for three months. The monastery was later built in this holy place in 1684, the fourth temporal ruler of Bhutan. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

The trail starts above the Ta Dzong (Museum). The trek starts gradually up hill, through mixed temperate forests and occasional farmhouses. By lunch time the trails goes through thick coniferous belt. We can look out for wild animals & birds. By evening we reach the Jelela Pass 2600m from here, which the campsite is just hundred meters down hill. It is a great campsite with fairly wide meadow – a place where yak herder camps here. We begin with about an hour and half climb and then ascend gradually up. The trail takes us through thick alpine forest and dwarf rhododendron tress. Mt. Jumolhari can be visible in this route. We may see yaks and yak herders around the campsite. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

The trail follows the ridge and on clear day the views of the mountains and valley are beautiful, in particular the Jichu Drake (6989m/22930ft).The route is covered with forests with high temperate and some alpine meadows. Camp is close to Lake of Jimilangtso. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

The trail takes us through dwarf Rhododendrons trees and then we pass by the lake of Janye Tsho. We may come across some yak herder’s camps where we will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of a nomad’s life. The trail takes us around 4-5 hours to reach Simkota. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

The trek begins with a gradual climb. If the weather favors, we will have a spectacular view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountain ranges from Dochula pass. From here, down valley a beautiful view of Thimpu valley can be observed. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

The trek to Thimphu is all the way down hill through a forested area of mostly Blue pine. This day we can start our trek at late as well. There is no rush. We can start in morning or even we can start late and visit some old temples there. The sunrise view from Phajoding is great with Thimpu valley just below us. Many pheasants can be seen if we go for a walk around the hillside. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

We can visit the National Memorial Chorten built in memory of late 3rd King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk in 1974.Also, there is Changangkha Temple built in 15th century to visit. Takin (National Animal) sanctuary is another place we can go for visit. Not to forget the Thimpu city. We can go for the handicrafts emporium where Bhutanese textiles and other arts are displayed and can be purchased. The other attraction is the painting and woodcraft schools where the traditional art and painting are kept alive. Meals:Breakfast , Lunch, Dinner

Our trek to Bhutan almost completes here so we head to Paro through winding road all the way down following the Wangchuk River and reaches to the confluence (Chu- Zom). It means the meeting of two rivers Wangchuk & Pa- Chu from Paro. This point is to check the vehicle pass by and immigrations. On the junction of these two rivers, we will witness the three different kind of Chorten Tibetan, Bhutanese and Nepalese style. We will cross this bridge and turn to right towards Paro. After breakfast we are being transported to airport for the flight back to Kathmandu from Paro Airport. This day can be utilized buying gifts and souvenirs for friends and family. In the evening you will be invited to join FAREWELL reviewing great photos and share experiences of the trip. Meals: Breakfast, Farewell Dinner
