The new official height of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest is 8,848.86 meters. The previous height was 8,848 meters as measured by the 1954 Survey of India. After the height dispute, Nepal and China in 2010 agreed to recognize Mount Everest stands at 8,848 meters. Recently, Nepal and China unveiled the height of the world’s highest peak had rose 86 centimeters to reach 8,848.86. The news was announced by Nepal’s Foreign Minister Pradip Kumar Gyawali held at the Survey Department. The height measurement was done separately by Nepal and China. The data obtained from the survey has been processed by the Department of Surveying and Mapping. According to the department, discussions were held at the level of the Chinese counterpart technical and steering committee. The cabinet meeting on December 26 gave approval to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation to make the height measurement. The coordination with China was conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was agreed in October 2019 that the heights of Mount Everest would be inaugurated simultaneously in Nepal and China.
