The Western Bhutan Tour 11 Days is a cultural journey combining the highlights of Nepal and Bhutan. Starting in Kathmandu, Nepal, the tour includes cultural sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley before flying to Paro, Bhutan. You will explore the capital city of Thimphu, experience the peaceful landscapes of Gangtey (Phobjikha Valley), visit the historic Punakha Dzong, and discover the beautiful Paro Valley. One of the major highlights is hiking to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliff above Paro. With a combination of cultural landmarks, Buddhist monasteries, traditional villages, scenic mountain drives, and Himalayan landscapes, this tour offers an excellent introduction to Bhutanese culture and traditions.
The Western Bhutan Tour can be enjoyed throughout much of the year, but spring and autumn are generally the best seasons because of their pleasant weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable sightseeing conditions.
Spring (March to May): Spring brings blooming rhododendrons, colorful landscapes, and mild temperatures. It is an excellent time to explore Bhutan’s valleys, monasteries, and traditional villages.
Autumn (September to November): Autumn is one of the most popular seasons for visiting Bhutan. The skies are often clear, the weather is comfortable, and the mountain scenery is particularly beautiful. It is ideal for sightseeing, photography, and the Tiger’s Nest hike.
Winter (December to February): Winter offers quieter sightseeing, crisp air, and beautiful views on clear days. Phobjikha Valley is especially famous for the arrival of black-necked cranes during the winter months. Temperatures can be cold, particularly in the mornings and evenings.
Summer (June to August): Summer brings greener valleys and lush landscapes, but monsoon rainfall can affect road journeys and mountain views. Travelers should allow some flexibility in their plans.
Overall, March to May and September to November are the recommended periods for the Western Bhutan Tour.
Kathmandu, Nepal: Explore the cultural heritage of Nepal’s capital, including historic temples, traditional architecture, and important UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kathmandu provides a fascinating introduction to Himalayan culture before your journey to Bhutan.
Thimphu: Discover Bhutan’s capital, known for its Buddhist monuments, traditional markets, monasteries, and modern Bhutanese lifestyle. Major attractions may include the Buddha Dordenma Statue, National Memorial Chorten, and Tashichho Dzong.
Gangtey and Phobjikha Valley: Experience the peaceful landscapes of Phobjikha Valley, surrounded by rolling hills, forests, and traditional villages. Visit Gangtey Monastery and enjoy the valley’s natural beauty. During winter, the area is an important habitat for black-necked cranes.
Punakha: Visit the historic Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive fortresses, located at the meeting point of two rivers. The region is also known for its fertile valleys, traditional villages, and scenic suspension bridge.
Paro: Explore Paro’s cultural landmarks, traditional Bhutanese architecture, and beautiful valley scenery. The town is home to important historical sites, including Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum of Bhutan.
Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang): Hike to Bhutan’s iconic cliffside monastery, one of the country’s most celebrated spiritual landmarks. The trail passes through pine forests and offers spectacular views of Paro Valley.
During the Western Bhutan Tour, you will stay in comfortable hotels selected for their location, cleanliness, and hospitality. In Kathmandu, accommodation will be arranged in a tourist-standard hotel, while in Bhutan, you will stay in comfortable hotels in Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha, and Paro. Rooms are generally arranged on a twin-sharing basis, with private bathrooms and essential facilities, subject to hotel availability. Single rooms may be available at an additional cost.

In Bhutan, private ground transportation will be provided for transfers and sightseeing between Paro, Thimphu, Gangtey, and Punakha. In Kathmandu, transportation will be arranged for the planned sightseeing activities and airport transfers. The Tiger’s Nest Monastery visit involves a hike on foot, as vehicles cannot reach the monastery itself.
Travel to Bhutan requires the appropriate entry authorization and payment of applicable government fees. Most international visitors need a Bhutan visa arranged before arrival through an authorized tour operator, while Indian nationals and eligible Bangladeshi and Maldivian nationals follow different entry procedures. Travelers should carry a valid passport and any other required travel documents.
The tour operator will generally assist with the Bhutan visa application and required travel arrangements. Bhutan also charges a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), and applicable visa fees and other government charges should be confirmed when booking. Certain restricted areas or special activities may require additional authorization.
