Overview

Explore the cultural and natural wonders of Nepal with the 6-day Kathmandu and Pokhara Tour offered by the Alpine Club of Himalaya. This expertly crafted itinerary is perfect for travelers seeking to experience the highlights of Nepal within a limited time frame. From ancient temples and UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu to serene lakes and panoramic Himalayan views in Pokhara, this journey blends history, spirituality, and scenic beauty.

Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is a vibrant center of culture, heritage, and spirituality. During your visit, you’ll explore iconic landmarks such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and the ancient palaces of Patan and Bhaktapur. Each location tells the story of Nepal’s rich history and religious traditions.

Pokhara, in contrast, offers a peaceful retreat with stunning views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges. The tranquil lakeside city is surrounded by natural beauty and offers unforgettable moments at Phewa Lake, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, and the World Peace Pagoda. On a clear day, the reflection of snow-capped peaks shimmering in the lake is truly breathtaking.

This tour also offers opportunities for short hikes or day treks from both Kathmandu and Pokhara for those who wish to witness Nepal’s rural life up close. These walks through traditional villages and terraced fields allow visitors to connect with the local way of life and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Himalayan foothills.

Important Travel Advisory

At the Alpine Club of Himalaya, your safety is always our top priority. We reserve the right to adjust or cancel the tour itinerary if we determine that your well-being may be at risk. Factors such as weather conditions, natural disasters, or a traveler’s health may lead to necessary changes, especially in remote mountainous regions.

Should any adjustments be required, we ask for your understanding and cooperation with the group leader, who is authorized by Alpine Club of Himalaya to make on-the-spot decisions for your safety and comfort. We remain committed to delivering the best possible experience while adhering to safety protocols.

Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, this Kathmandu and Pokhara tour package is a perfect introduction to the beauty and culture of Nepal. Book your adventure with the Alpine Club of Himalaya and experience the magic of the Himalayas in just six unforgettable days.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kathmandu and Pokhara is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. During these months, the weather is clear, mild, and ideal for sightseeing and short treks. You'll enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas and comfortable temperatures for travel and exploration. Winter (December to February) is also possible if you prefer cooler temperatures, while summer (June to August) brings monsoon rains, which may affect road conditions and visibility.

Ethics You Should Follow

While traveling in Nepal, it’s important to respect the local culture and traditions. Always dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Remove your shoes before entering temples and stupas. Ask for permission before photographing people or entering private property. Be mindful of the environment—avoid single-use plastics, do not litter, and follow local conservation rules. Showing kindness, humility, and gratitude goes a long way in Nepalese culture.

Accommodation

During the Kathmandu and Pokhara tour, you'll stay in comfortable, well-reviewed hotels selected by Alpine Club of Himalaya. Accommodations typically include modern amenities like private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and hot showers. Hotels are located in safe, central areas for convenient access to attractions, dining, and local experiences. Upgrades to boutique or luxury hotels are available upon request.

Transportation

All ground transportation for this tour is organized for your comfort and convenience. Travel between destinations like Kathmandu and Pokhara will be in private vehicles (such as a car, jeep, or tourist van), depending on your group size and preferences. For those who wish, public transportation can also be arranged, offering a more local and budget-friendly experience. Domestic flights between the cities are also available as an optional upgrade.

Meals

The tour typically includes daily breakfast at the hotel. Lunches and dinners are at your own expense, giving you the freedom to try a wide variety of local Nepali cuisine or international dishes. Your guide will recommend trusted restaurants where hygiene and quality are prioritized. Vegetarian and vegan options are widely available.

Drinking Water

While traveling in Nepal, it's important to avoid drinking tap water. We recommend bringing a refillable bottle and using purified or bottled water, which is widely available. The Alpine Club of Himalaya encourages responsible travel, so we suggest using water purification tablets or portable filters when possible to reduce plastic waste.

Why Choose Alpine Club of Himalaya

The Alpine Club of Himalaya is a trusted, government-registered trekking and tour operator in Nepal with years of experience in organizing cultural tours, trekking adventures, and Himalayan expeditions. Known for our professionalism, personalized service, and deep local knowledge, we prioritize your safety, comfort, and authentic experience. Our expert guides are well-trained, licensed, and passionate about showcasing Nepal’s culture, landscapes, and hospitality.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for this tour. It should cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost baggage, and any unforeseen disruptions. Although this tour stays in well-connected cities, insurance provides peace of mind, especially in case of health issues or delays.

Passport and Visa

To enter Nepal, a valid passport with at least six months of validity is required. Most international travelers can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or apply online via the official Nepal Immigration website. The tourist visa is typically issued for 15, 30, or 90 days. Ensure you check the latest visa requirements based on your nationality before departure.

Guide

Throughout the Kathmandu and Pokhara tour, you will be accompanied by a professional, licensed local tour guide who is well-versed in the history, culture, and traditions of Nepal. Your guide will provide insightful commentary at all major sites, assist with logistics, and ensure your experience is smooth and enriching. Whether you want to learn about ancient temples, local customs, or hidden gems, your guide will tailor the tour to your interests and answer any questions you may have.

Entrance Fees

The tour package includes all necessary entrance fees to major historical and cultural sites in both Kathmandu and Pokhara. This covers iconic attractions such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Devi’s Falls, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, and other key landmarks. Including entrance fees in the package ensures a hassle-free experience, allowing you to explore Nepal’s rich heritage without worrying about additional costs or ticket purchases during your sightseeing.

WiFi and Electricity

Most hotels and cafés in Kathmandu and Pokhara offer free WiFi for guests, allowing you to stay connected throughout your trip. However, internet speeds may vary depending on location and local infrastructure. Nepal uses 220V electricity with a frequency of 50 Hz, and the common plug types are Type C, D, and M. It is recommended to carry a universal travel adapter to ensure your devices can be charged without any issues during your stay.

Weather and Environment

Nepal’s diverse topography creates a wide range of weather conditions, even over short distances. Both Kathmandu and Pokhara lie in lower Himalayan valleys and enjoy a relatively moderate climate year-round. Spring (March to May) brings pleasant temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and clear skies, making it one of the most popular times for travel. Autumn (September to November) offers the best visibility for mountain views, with crisp air, sunny days, and low humidity. Winter (December to February) is cool and dry, especially in the mornings and evenings, but still suitable for cultural sightseeing. Monsoon season (June to August) sees heavy rainfall, lush green surroundings, and occasional travel delays due to wet roads or low visibility. Pokhara receives more rainfall than Kathmandu, but also has clearer skies right after rain. Regardless of the season, the environment in both cities is rich in natural beauty, from historic hills to peaceful lakes and mountain backdrops

Final Notes

Before starting your tour, it is essential to ensure that your travel preparations are complete for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. While this tour involves moderate walking and sightseeing rather than intense trekking, packing appropriate clothing and gear suited for changing weather conditions is important. Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, and weather-appropriate accessories will help you fully enjoy the stunning Himalayan views and cultural sites. We recommend testing your gear and clothing beforehand to avoid any discomfort during the trip.

The Alpine Club of Himalaya is dedicated to providing a safe, smooth, and memorable journey. Should you have any questions or require assistance before or during your tour, our team is always ready to support you.
