Chandragiri Hills is an ideal quick getaway and a captivating oasis just outside Kathmandu. Located only 7 km from Thankot, this 2551-meter-high natural haven offers a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayas, providing one of the closest views of the majestic Mount Everest from Kathmandu. The area is enveloped in temperate wilderness, offering refreshing forest air and stunning Himalayan vistas.

Chandragiri Hills is also home to the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple, a significant Hindu shrine believed to grant wishes. The hills hold historical significance as well; it was here that King Prithivi Narayan Shah first glimpsed the scenic and prosperous Kathmandu Valley, inspiring his ambition to annex it into his kingdom. According to local folklore, the king gained spiritual powers for the unification of Nepal after undergoing rigorous meditation, or 'sadhana,' on these very hills. Disguised to avoid detection by the Malla Kings of Kathmandu Valley, he ascended the hills to observe the valley.
