Scenic Tour
This is a 6-day, 5-night trip through western and central Bhutan. It covers Paro, Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha and back to Paro.
You land in Paro and drive to Thimphu, the capital. From there the road crosses Dochula Pass to Gangtey and the Phobjikha Valley. Next is Punakha, where the main stop is its dzong (fortress-monastery). The last leg goes back to Paro for the National Museum, Rinpung Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang. The final visit is Tiger's Nest (Taktsang), the monastery built into a cliff above the valley.
Each stop is one or two nights, so the trip is short enough for a week away from work and still passes through four districts. It suits people who want monasteries, villages and mountain scenery on one route.
This Bhutan tour brings together some of the country's most important cultural and natural attractions in one journey. You can explore the lively streets and landmarks of Thimphu, experience the peaceful landscapes of Gangtey and Phobjikha, visit the historic Punakha Dzong, and discover the cultural treasures of Paro.
The itinerary also includes scenic drives through the Himalayan countryside, visits to Buddhist monasteries and dzongs, the Gangtey Nature Trail, and a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. It offers a balanced combination of sightseeing, nature, walking, and cultural experiences.
Thimphu is the political, cultural, and commercial centre of Bhutan. The city combines modern development with traditional Bhutanese architecture and offers several important cultural attractions.
During the tour, you visit Buddha Point, King’s Memorial Chorten, Tashichho Dzong, and the Local Crafts Bazaar. Exploring the streets and markets also provides an opportunity to see everyday life in Bhutan’s capital.
Gangtey and the wider Phobjikha Valley offer a peaceful contrast to the urban environment of Thimphu. The valley is surrounded by forested hills and open landscapes, making it one of the scenic highlights of the journey.
The visit includes Gangtey Goempa and the easy Gangtey Nature Trail, which passes through meadows, forests, villages, and traditional Bhutanese landscapes.
Punakha is known for its historic significance and beautiful river valleys. The main attraction is Punakha Dzong, a spectacular fortress located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
The itinerary also includes a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, where the walk through rice fields and traditional villages provides an insight into rural Bhutanese culture.
Paro is home to some of Bhutan’s most important cultural landmarks. The itinerary allows you to explore Ta Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, and Kyichu Lhakhang while experiencing the traditional architecture and landscapes of the Paro Valley.
The highlight of the Paro visit is the hike to Taktshang Monastery, or Tiger’s Nest, one of Bhutan’s most famous religious and cultural sites.
The best time for this Bhutan tour generally depends on the experience you want. Spring and autumn are popular seasons for comfortable weather, clear mountain views, and outdoor sightseeing. Spring brings blooming flowers and pleasant conditions, while autumn is known for clearer skies and crisp mountain scenery.
Summer can bring rain, particularly during the monsoon period, while winter is colder but can offer clear days and fewer visitors.
This is a moderate sightseeing and cultural tour with comfortable road travel and several walking excursions. Most sightseeing locations require only short walks, while the Tiger’s Nest hike on Day 5 is the most physically demanding activity.
The Gangtey Nature Trail is relatively easy, but travelers should still be prepared for walking on uneven terrain and varying elevations.
Accommodation is provided in hotels in Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha, and Paro. The tour includes overnight stays in comfortable hotels selected for their location and services.
Meals are arranged according to the tour package, with breakfast provided at the hotel and other meals included where specified in the package inclusions.
The tour uses private road transportation for transfers between Paro, Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha, and Paro. The roads pass through mountain valleys, forests, traditional villages, and scenic Himalayan landscapes.
Your airport transfers in Paro are also arranged as part of the tour.
The cost of the 5 Nights / 6 Days Bhutan Tour depends on the group size, accommodation category, travel season, and services included in the package. The package price can include accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, meals, guide services, and other required arrangements.
For the exact price and inclusions, travelers can contact Alpine Club of Himalaya for a customized quotation.
