This Bardiya National Park tour takes you from Kathmandu to Nepal's largest lowland wildlife park in four days. You fly to Nepalgunj, spend three nights near Thakurdwara, and go into the park on foot and by jeep with a licensed naturalist guide. The price includes domestic flights, park fees, all meals and private transfers.
Bardiya (also spelled Bardia) covers 968 square kilometres along the Karnali and Babai rivers. It has far fewer visitors than Chitwan, which means quieter trails and more time with the wildlife.
The dry season from October to May works best for wildlife. Water is scarce, so animals gather near rivers and waterholes, and the grass is shorter. The seasons feel quite different.

Yes, but no one can guarantee it. Bardiya had about 125 tigers in Nepal's 2022 national tiger survey, and it has one of the highest tiger densities in the country. The park is large and the forest is dense, so most visitors see tracks and hear alarm calls before they see the animal itself. Three things improve your chances. Come between February and May, spend at least three days inside the park, and go with a guide who knows where the animals are moving. This tour includes both a jungle walk and a jeep safari for that reason.
A walk is quiet and slow. You can follow tracks, stop at river crossings and sit still for as long as it takes, which suits people who want to track. A jeep covers far more ground and reaches distant waterholes and viewpoints, and it is easier if the heat is high or you prefer not to walk far. This tour has one of each so you can compare. The fastest route is a flight of about an hour from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, followed by a drive of two to three hours to Thakurdwara, the village at the park entrance. This tour includes both. Yes, when you follow the rules. Entering the park without a licensed guide is not allowed. Walks run with trained guides in small groups, in daylight only, and you keep a set distance from wildlife. Most human-tiger conflict in the district involves villagers collecting fodder in buffer zone forests, not visitors on guided tours.
You stay for three nights at a 3-star lodge near Thakurdwara, twin sharing, with meals included. Thakurdwara is a small Tharu village next to the park gate, so activities start with a short transfer. Electricity runs on a schedule in some lodges and internet is slow. Most travelers treat that as part of the trip.

Catch an early morning flight from Kathmandu domestic airport towards the Nepalgunj. A bustling city in the southwestern part of the country. The flight is scenic with views of snow-capped peaks, lush hill networks, and the southern plains. Upon reaching Nepalgunj head towards Bardia National Park. A short drive of around two hours takes you across a distance of 90 kilometers. Upon arriving at Bardia National Park head toward your accommodation. After a brief rest attend a brief orientation about various activities for the following days. In the afternoon stroll around the region and visit the Tharu village around. Learn about the indigenous people of the region and indulge in friendly conversation with them.
