The Australian Camp Trek with Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan Tour Package - 9 Days is a carefully designed journey that combines Nepal’s most iconic travel experiences into one seamless itinerary. This package brings together cultural heritage exploration, short and scenic Himalayan trekking, and rich wildlife adventure, making it one of the most diverse and rewarding short tours in Nepal.
The trip begins in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, where ancient temples, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and vibrant local markets introduce you to the country’s deep spiritual and historical roots. From Kathmandu, the journey continues to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city known for its relaxed atmosphere, stunning mountain reflections on Phewa Lake, and panoramic views of the Annapurna range.
From Pokhara, the adventure shifts toward the Himalayas with a short and easy trek to Dhampus and Australian Camp. This trekking section is the highlight of the journey for nature lovers. The trail passes through traditional Gurung villages, terraced farmlands, and peaceful rhododendron forests. Along the way, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri ranges. Australian Camp itself offers one of the most beautiful sunrise and sunset viewpoints in the Annapurna region, where golden light spreads across snow-capped peaks and rolling green hills.
After the trekking experience, the journey continues to Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Asia’s best wildlife destinations. Here, travelers experience a completely different landscape - dense jungles, grasslands, and river ecosystems. Activities include jungle safaris, canoe rides, bird watching, and cultural encounters with the indigenous Tharu community. This contrast between mountains and jungle makes the itinerary especially unique.
This 9-day package is designed to be comfortable, well-paced, and suitable for all age groups, including beginners and families. It does not require prior trekking experience, as the hiking section is short and easy. Accommodation throughout the trip is a combination of standard hotels, cozy mountain tea houses, and comfortable jungle resorts, ensuring both comfort and authenticity.
Organized by Alpine Club of Himalaya, this tour focuses on safety, quality service, and meaningful travel experiences. It is ideal for travelers who want to experience Nepal’s culture, mountains, and wildlife all in one journey, without the need for long or difficult trekking.
The best time to experience the Australian Camp Trek with Kathmandu, Pokhara & Chitwan Tour is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These periods offer the most stable weather conditions, clear skies, and excellent visibility of the Himalayas.
In spring, the trekking trails are vibrant with blooming rhododendrons and lush greenery, making the Dhampus and Australian Camp region especially beautiful. Temperatures are warm and pleasant, ideal for both trekking and sightseeing. In autumn, the weather is crisp and dry, with crystal-clear mountain views and comfortable temperatures, making it the peak tourist season in Nepal.
Winter (December to February) is also suitable, especially for cultural tours and lower-altitude trekking, but mornings and evenings can be cold in Australian Camp. Monsoon season (June to August) is generally not recommended due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and reduced visibility in the mountains, although Chitwan remains accessible and green during this time.
Meals during the 9-day Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Australian Camp Trek package are carefully arranged to provide a balanced mix of nutrition, taste, and local experience. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, breakfast is usually included in hotel stays, offering a selection of continental and Nepali options such as eggs, bread, cereals, pancakes, tea, and coffee. Lunch and dinner are available at nearby restaurants where travelers can choose from a wide range of international cuisines including Nepali, Indian, Asian, and Western dishes.
During the trekking section (Dhampus and Australian Camp), meals are served in local tea houses. The food is simple but hearty and freshly prepared. The most common dish is dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles), which is highly nutritious and gives enough energy for trekking. Other available items include noodles, fried rice, soups, pasta, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, and seasonal vegetables. In Chitwan, the jungle resort provides full-board meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with both buffet and set-menu options. Local Tharu-style cuisine may also be offered as part of the cultural experience.
Overall, the meals are hygienic, filling, and designed to support both trekking energy needs and leisure travel comfort.
Accommodation in this package is a combination of comfortable hotels, tea houses, and jungle resorts, offering a diverse experience throughout the journey. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay in well-rated tourist-standard hotels with clean rooms, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, hot showers, and breakfast included. These hotels are located in convenient areas, allowing easy access to cultural sites and lakeside attractions.
During the Australian Camp trek (Dhampus and Australian Camp), accommodation is provided in basic but cozy local tea houses or lodges. Rooms are usually twin-sharing with simple bedding, warm blankets, and shared bathroom facilities. While facilities are simple, the hospitality is warm, and the location offers direct access to stunning mountain views.
In Chitwan, accommodation is arranged in a comfortable jungle resort or lodge, featuring private rooms, modern amenities, attached bathrooms, and peaceful surroundings near the national park. Some resorts also include gardens, cultural performance areas, and relaxation spaces.
Safe drinking water is available throughout the entire journey, but it is important to manage it responsibly for both health and environmental reasons. In cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, bottled mineral water is easily available in hotels, shops, and restaurants. However, to reduce plastic waste, travelers are encouraged to use refillable water bottles with purification tablets or filters.
During the trekking section, tea houses provide boiled or filtered drinking water for a small cost. Boiled water is the safest option in rural areas and is commonly used by trekkers. In Chitwan, jungle resorts also provide filtered or bottled water as part of their service. Staying hydrated is important due to varying climates, especially during trekking and jungle activities.
The Australian Camp Trek is considered a easy to moderate level trek, making it suitable for beginners, families, and travelers with limited trekking experience. The trekking routes from Phedi to Dhampus, and Dhampus to Australian Camp involve gradual uphill and downhill walking on well-defined trails.
Daily walking hours are relatively short, usually between 2 to 4 hours, with comfortable pacing and regular rest stops. The maximum altitude reached during the trek is around 2,100 meters at Australian Camp, which significantly reduces the risk of altitude sickness compared to high Himalayan treks.
Although the trek is not physically demanding, a basic level of fitness is recommended, especially for uphill sections and walking on stone steps or forest trails. The inclusion of rest days, comfortable accommodation, and a slow itinerary makes it accessible even for first-time trekkers. The combination of trekking, sightseeing, and jungle safari makes this package more of a soft adventure tour rather than a challenging expedition.
For a safe and enjoyable experience, Alpine Club of Himalaya provides a professional English-speaking trekking guide. A porter is also assigned for every two trekkers to help carry luggage, allowing you to walk comfortably with a light daypack. Guides are knowledgeable about the region’s culture, nature, and history, while porters are experienced and reliable. Having a guide and porter ensures a stress-free and immersive trekking experience.
To trek to Australian Camp, you’ll need a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). These permits are mandatory and can be arranged by Alpine Club of Himalaya. The fees contribute to trail maintenance and conservation efforts in the region. Always carry these permits with you during the trek as they are checked at various points along the route.
To enter Nepal, all foreign nationals (except Indian citizens) must have a valid passport with at least six months of validity and a tourist visa. Visas can be obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or applied for online in advance. Tourist visas are available for 15, 30, or 90 days. Ensure you bring a few passport-sized photos and the visa fee in USD or other major currencies.
Travel insurance is highly recommended for all trekkers joining the Australian Camp Trek. Your policy should cover medical emergencies, evacuation by helicopter (if necessary), and trip cancellations or delays. Although this is a relatively low-altitude and short trek, having insurance gives you peace of mind in case of unexpected situations. Alpine Club of Himalaya advises all trekkers to arrange comprehensive insurance before traveling to Nepal.
