Overview

Discover the ultimate blend of culture, adventure, and wildlife with the 6-day Wildlife Safari and Rafting Tour in Nepal, expertly organized by Alpine Club of Himalaya. This thrilling journey begins in the vibrant capital city of Kathmandu, where you'll explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites, ancient temples, and the rich cultural heritage that defines Nepal’s history.

From Kathmandu, the adventure continues with an exciting white-water rafting experience on the Trishuli River—perfect for both beginners and thrill-seekers. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, the river offers just the right balance of fun and challenge. After the rafting adventure, travel to the lush jungles of Chitwan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible biodiversity. Enjoy jungle safaris, canoe rides, and wildlife spotting opportunities, with chances to see the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, sloth bears, and over 500 species of birds.

After two unforgettable days immersed in nature and wildlife, return to Kathmandu to wrap up your journey. The Wildlife Safari and Rafting Tour by Alpine Club of Himalaya is ideal for travelers seeking a short yet diverse Nepal experience, combining the best of culture, adventure, and natural beauty in just six days.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to join the Wildlife Safari & Rafting Tour in Nepal is during the autumn and winter months, from October to March. During this period, the weather is typically dry and pleasant, with clear skies and mild temperatures—perfect for sightseeing, rafting, and wildlife safaris. Autumn (September to November) is particularly popular due to its stable climate and excellent visibility, which enhances both cultural exploration in Kathmandu and rafting on the Trishuli River. Winter (December to February) is ideal for jungle activities in Chitwan, as cooler temperatures bring more wildlife out into the open. Spring (March to May) is also a good time to visit, especially for travelers who enjoy warmer weather and blooming natural landscapes. These seasons offer the best balance of comfort, accessibility, and optimal conditions for adventure and wildlife viewing.

Accommodation

Throughout the 6-day tour, Alpine Club of Himalaya provides comfortable and reliable accommodation to ensure a relaxing experience after each day of adventure. In Kathmandu, you’ll stay at well-reviewed tourist-standard hotels equipped with essential amenities like Wi-Fi, en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and friendly service. In Chitwan, accommodations include jungle lodges or eco-resorts located near or within the buffer zone of Chitwan National Park. These lodges offer a unique opportunity to stay close to nature while enjoying comfort, clean rooms, mosquito nets, and traditional meals. The accommodations are carefully selected based on safety, cleanliness, and guest feedback, offering a welcoming environment where you can unwind and reflect on the day’s experiences.

Meals

The tour includes a mix of Nepali and international meals, thoughtfully arranged to keep you energized throughout your journey. In Kathmandu, breakfast is included at your hotel, offering options such as bread, eggs, local fruits, and hot beverages. During your stay in Chitwan, all meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are provided, featuring hearty Nepali cuisine alongside a selection of Asian and Western dishes. Meals typically include rice, lentils, vegetables, meat curries, and seasonal fruits. Special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-sensitive meals can be accommodated with prior notice. Clean, hygienic preparation is prioritized, and dining is often a communal and culturally enriching experience.

Drinking Water

Staying hydrated is crucial while traveling in Nepal, especially during outdoor activities like rafting and jungle safaris. However, tap water is not safe to drink in most areas. Alpine Club of Himalaya recommends using bottled or filtered water, which is widely available throughout the journey. Most hotels and lodges provide complimentary filtered water or allow you to refill reusable bottles. You can also purchase bottled water at local shops, restaurants, and rest stops. It's best to avoid consuming ice, unpeeled fruits, or raw vegetables washed in tap water, especially in rural areas. Bringing a personal water purifier or sterilizing tablets can be helpful for eco-conscious travelers.

Weather Conditions

The weather along the Wildlife Safari & Rafting Tour route varies by region and season, but it is generally mild and suitable for travel throughout most of the year. Kathmandu enjoys a temperate climate, with warm days and cool evenings in the autumn and spring seasons. The Trishuli River area, popular for rafting, has a subtropical climate that is ideal for water-based adventure activities between September and May, when river levels are safe and manageable. Chitwan, located in the lowland Terai region, experiences a warmer and more humid climate, especially from March to September. From October to February, the weather in Chitwan is dry and comfortable, making it the best time for wildlife sightings. Monsoon season (June to August) is typically avoided due to heavy rain and leeches in jungle areas.

Safety and Security

Your safety is the top priority for Alpine Club of Himalaya. The entire tour is managed by experienced professionals, including certified rafting instructors, jungle guides, and licensed tour leaders, all trained in first aid and emergency response. Vehicles used for transportation are regularly maintained, and all safety gear for rafting and jungle activities is provided. Chitwan National Park follows strict protocols to ensure visitor safety, especially during jeep safaris and canoe rides. Travelers are briefed on safety measures before every activity. In urban areas like Kathmandu, basic precautions such as safeguarding valuables and avoiding poorly lit areas at night are recommended. Nepal is considered generally safe for tourists, and the tour itinerary avoids high-risk or unstable regions entirely.

Ethics You Should Follow

As a responsible traveler, it's important to respect the local culture, environment, and wildlife throughout your journey. In Kathmandu, dress modestly when visiting temples or religious sites, and always remove shoes before entering sacred spaces. Avoid public displays of affection, loud talking in temples, or stepping over religious objects. In Chitwan, follow park regulations strictly—do not feed, touch, or disturb wildlife, and maintain a respectful distance during safaris. Carry out all waste and avoid single-use plastics whenever possible. Support the local economy by purchasing ethically made souvenirs and respecting local customs, such as greeting with “Namaste.” Practicing responsible tourism ensures a meaningful and sustainable experience for both visitors and host communities.

Permissions and Restrictions

For this tour, no special trekking or restricted-area permits are required, as the route passes through public and national park areas. However, entry fees to heritage sites in Kathmandu and Chitwan National Park permit charges are included in your tour cost. All safari and rafting activities are conducted under official guidelines and require participant registration for safety and insurance purposes. Certain areas in Chitwan National Park are only accessible with authorized guides. You may be required to show identification at checkpoints or hotel check-ins, so always carry a copy of your passport and visa.

Photography

Nepal offers countless opportunities for stunning photography—from ancient temples in Kathmandu to wildlife encounters in Chitwan. While photography is generally welcomed, it's essential to be respectful. Always ask for permission before photographing locals, especially in rural villages or during religious rituals. Flash photography is prohibited in most temples and heritage sites. During wildlife safaris, avoid using flash or sudden movements that could startle animals. Use zoom lenses rather than getting too close. Drone usage is restricted in many areas, including national parks and near military zones, and requires prior approval from local authorities. Alpine Club of Himalaya recommends traveling with protective camera gear due to dust and humidity, especially during jungle activities and rafting.

Transportation

All ground transportation during the tour is provided in private, well-maintained vehicles that vary based on group size. Smaller groups may travel in comfortable SUVs or minivans, while larger groups are transported in private tourist buses. All drivers are experienced and familiar with Nepal’s road conditions. The route from Kathmandu to Chitwan via the Trishuli River is scenic but includes winding mountain roads, so motion sickness medication may be helpful for sensitive travelers. Alpine Club of Himalaya ensures timely pick-ups, professional drivers, and air-conditioned transport where available, making the journey both safe and enjoyable.

Optional Flight to Bharatpur

For those short on time or preferring comfort, Alpine Club of Himalaya offers an optional domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bharatpur, which is the nearest airport to Chitwan. The flight takes around 25 minutes and provides stunning aerial views of the Himalayan foothills and Terai plains. This is a great way to skip the 6-hour road journey and start your jungle adventure sooner. Additional costs apply and must be requested in advance. Airport transfers to and from Bharatpur are fully arranged by the Alpine Club team for a smooth experience.

Passport and Visa

All international travelers must carry a valid passport with at least six months of validity from the date of entry. Nepal offers a visa on arrival for most nationalities at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and various land border crossings. Tourist visas are available for 15, 30, or 90 days and can be extended while in Nepal. The visa process is straightforward but requires a passport-sized photo and the visa fee in cash (USD preferred). An online pre-arrival form is also available for faster processing. Make sure to bring a copy of your travel insurance and itinerary, as they may be requested by immigration or accommodation providers.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory for joining the Wildlife Safari & Rafting Tour with Alpine Club of Himalaya. Your policy must cover medical emergencies, hospital care, evacuation by air if needed, trip cancellation, and adventure sports such as white-water rafting and jungle safari. It’s important to carry a printed copy of your insurance certificate and share your policy details with your tour leader. If you plan to take the optional flight to Bharatpur, make sure your insurance includes domestic flight coverage. Having comprehensive travel insurance not only protects you but also ensures faster response in case of any unexpected situations.

Final Notes

Before starting your tour, it is essential to ensure that your travel preparations are complete for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. While this tour involves moderate walking and sightseeing rather than intense trekking, packing appropriate clothing and gear suited for changing weather conditions is important. Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, and weather-appropriate accessories will help you fully enjoy the stunning Himalayan views and cultural sites. We recommend testing your gear and clothing beforehand to avoid any discomfort during the trip.

The Alpine Club of Himalaya is dedicated to providing a safe, smooth, and memorable journey. Should you have any questions or require assistance before or during your tour, our team is always ready to support you.
