Let us guide you through the timeless beauty of Kathmandu Valley – where every corner holds a piece of history.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Kathmandu for a heritage tour is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and the best visibility for scenic views of the mountains and cityscape. Festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Indra Jatra, and Buddha Jayanti also fall around these times, allowing travelers to witness rich cultural celebrations.
Accommodation
During your stay in Kathmandu, accommodation options range from standard 3-star hotels to luxury boutique stays, depending on your preference. The selected hotels are centrally located, providing easy access to major heritage sites. Rooms typically include private bathrooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and breakfast. Alpine Club of Himalaya ensures that your accommodation is clean, safe, and comfortable, offering a pleasant stay after your city explorations.
Transportation (Private)
All transportation for the Kathmandu Heritage Site Tour is arranged in private, air-conditioned vehicles for your comfort and convenience. From airport transfers to daily sightseeing, you’ll travel in well-maintained vehicles with professional drivers. This allows flexibility, comfort, and personalized service throughout your journey across the city’s historic landmarks.
Restrictions and Permissions While Visiting Sacred Places
When visiting religious and sacred sites in Kathmandu, there are a few important guidelines to follow:
- Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, especially in temples and monasteries
- Remove shoes before entering temple courtyards or shrines
- Photography may be restricted in certain inner sanctums – always check for signs or ask your guide
- Respect local customs and rituals, avoiding loud behavior or intrusive actions during ceremonies
- Entry to Pashupatinath Temple is restricted to Hindus only; however, non-Hindus can view the temple complex from designated areas
Alpine Club of Himalaya’s guides will ensure you are aware of and follow all necessary protocols during the tour.
· Travel Insurance
· Travel insurance is highly recommended for all travelers visiting Nepal. A standard travel insurance policy should cover trip cancellations, medical expenses, emergency evacuations, and theft or loss of belongings. While Kathmandu is relatively safe, having insurance provides peace of mind in case of unexpected events. Please ensure that your policy is valid in Nepal and covers activities such as sightseeing and guided travel.
Passport and Visa
All travelers visiting Nepal must possess a valid passport with at least six months of validity from their date of entry. Tourist visas can be conveniently obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or applied for in advance at a Nepalese embassy. Visa fees vary depending on the duration of stay—commonly issued for 15, 30, or 90 days. Upon arrival, travelers are required to complete an immigration form and submit a passport-sized photograph. It is recommended to carry a few extra passport photos and US dollars to cover visa charges. For added convenience, Alpine Club of Himalaya is happy to assist guests with general visa information and travel documentation guidance.
Final Notes
Before starting your tour, it is essential to ensure that your travel preparations are complete for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. While this tour involves moderate walking and sightseeing rather than intense trekking, packing appropriate clothing and gear suited for changing weather conditions is important. Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing, and weather-appropriate accessories will help you fully enjoy the stunning Himalayan views and cultural sites. We recommend testing your gear and clothing beforehand to avoid any discomfort during the trip.
The Alpine Club of Himalaya is dedicated to providing a safe, smooth, and memorable journey. Should you have any questions or require assistance before or during your tour, our team is always ready to support you.

Detail Itineraries
Your cultural journey begins in the heart of Kathmandu with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square, one of the three ancient royal palace squares in the Kathmandu Valley and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic landmark is home to the historic Hanuman Dhoka Palace Complex, which served as the residence of Nepalese royalty until the 19th century. Spanning over five acres, the complex boasts exquisite wooden architecture, including ornately carved windows, doors, and courtyards. Within the palace, you’ll find the King Tribhuwan Memorial Museum, honoring the monarch who opened Nepal to the world, and the Mahendra Museum, dedicated to his son, King Mahendra. Visitors can explore the former royal chambers and ceremonial state rooms, gaining insight into Nepal’s regal history. Nearby is the Kumari Ghar, home to the living goddess Kumari, a revered young girl believed to be the earthly embodiment of the goddess Durga.
Next, we head to Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, one of Nepal’s oldest and most sacred Buddhist sites. Perched atop a hill west of Kathmandu city, this ancient stupa offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and is a key pilgrimage destination for both Buddhists and Hindus. The white dome, crowned with a golden spire and the watchful eyes of the Buddha, is surrounded by shrines, prayer wheels, and fluttering prayer flags. According to legend, Swayambhunath emerged from a lotus flower that bloomed in the middle of an ancient lake, giving rise to the Kathmandu Valley. The stupa complex reflects Nepal’s spiritual harmony, blending Hindu and Buddhist symbolism in one sacred site.
In the afternoon, we travel to Patan Durbar Square, located in the city of Lalitpur, just across the Bagmati River. Known for its remarkable craftsmanship and well-preserved ancient architecture, Patan is one of the oldest Buddhist cities in the world. The central square is a living museum of Newari architecture, featuring a dense cluster of temples and shrines. Notable highlights include the Krishna Mandir, an elegant stone temple built in 1637, and the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), a 12th-century Buddhist monastery with stunning gilded facades. Other architectural gems in the area include the Vishwanath Temple, Bhimsen Temple, Jagannarayan Temple, and Manga Hiti. This UNESCO-listed site showcases the artistic and cultural sophistication of the Malla era and is a must-see for history and heritage lovers.
