Overview

Rock climbing has recently gained popularity in Kathmandu thanks to the natural and majestic rock faces within the valley. The numerous natural climbing sites in Kathmandu are suitable for all kinds of climbers ranging from beginners to experts. Just choose a climb that is best for you, and you are all set to go.

Also, understand that rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport. It often tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility, and balance, along with mental control. So, please be sufficiently prepared before undertaking any rock climbing tours.

Nagarjun Forest Reserve Site

A 30-minute drive from Thamel will take you to Nagarjun Forest Reserve, located 3km northwest of Kathmandu Valley. While an excellent site for beginners, novices, and professional climbers, bird watchers will love it as well for the over 318 species of birds recorded by ornithologists.

Hattiban Site

Hattiban is an hour’s drive from Thamel and located in the southern parts of Kathmandu valley on the way to the holy temple of “Dhaskinkali.” It is a top-grade climbing site fit for skilled and professional climbers only, but while physically challenging, it is a worthwhile climb bringing a sense of calmness and peacefulness to those who challenge it.
