Day 01: Arrival in Bhutan and Sightseeing in Paro (2,250m / 7,382ft)

You will be welcomed by an amazing view of The Himalayas as you approach Bhutan. At the airport, you will be welcomed by a representative of Alpine Club of Himalaya. Once you have settled in our hotel, you will embark on your journey to Paro. In Paro, you will visit places such as the Dungste Lhakang, a 15th-century temple with the Ugyen Perli Palace visible through its fence, the Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery, the national museum, and Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest Bhutanese temple. Overnight in Paro.

Day 02: Hike to Taktsang Monastery

After breakfast, you will take a scenic hike for about 4-5 hours to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), the most sacred monastery in Bhutan, built on steep cliff, offering you enchanting views of the Paro valley.Guru Padmasambhava who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, is said to have meditated there for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century. Lunch will be served at the restaurant located halfway up the mountain. You will then hike back down the valley. Overnight in Paro.

Day 03: Paro to Jele Dzong (Trek begins): 10 km, 4 – 5 hours

From Paro, we will drive for about an hour to Damchena, and trek up to Jele Dzong at 3400m through apple orchards and pine forests. The Jele Dzong was built by Ngawang Choegyel, the great grandfather of the Zhabdrung in the 15th century. Jele Dzong is mostly in ruins but there is a Lhakhang (Buddhist Temple) with the statute of Buddha Sakyamun. On a clear day you have a spectacular view of the Paro valley, mount Jomolhari (7,314m) and the snow-capped mountains of The Himalaya.  Overnight camp at 3,300m.

Day 04: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha: 10 km, 4 hours

We trek with a gradual ascend (310m) for an hour and a half , and then descend (50m) through thick alpine forests and rhododendrons. You may see yak herders along the way. When you arrive at the campsite in Jangchulakha, you will be welcomed with an amazing view of snowcapped mountains at the height of 3,600m.

Day 05: Jangchulakha to Langrithang: 15 km, 4 – 5 hours

The trail begins with a short climb at 330m that follows a the ridge. The camp is close to the lakes of Jimilangtsho, that are famous for their giant sized trouts. There are also great views of the Jichu Drake (6,989m), the peak that represents the protective deity of Paro. Then, the trail descends further down  through fir forests towards Langrithang. Overnight camp at 3,500m.

Day 06: Trek to Tsaluna (Trek ends) and drive to Thimphu: 11 km, 4 hours

On our hike today, we descend 800m through fir and rhododendron forests, and follow a stream before reaching the Tsaluna Monastery, a sacred site of Guru Rinpoche from the 8th century.  Further down the trail is the Tsaluna Village with beautiful farms. Then we drive to Thimpu, and visit places such as the King’s Memorial Chorten, and the majestic Tashichho Dzong. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 07: Final Departure

After an early breakfast, we leave to Paro airport (approx. 1 hour). Druk Air generally departs early in the mornings to avoid adverse weather conditions.

Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is no ordinary place. This is a country where buying cigarettes is illegal, where the rice is red and where chillies aren’t just a seasoning but the entire dish.

I am very happy as I made this trip, I came to know that Bhutanese people are the happiest people in Asia and they are very rich with their traditions, culture and their lifestyle. We explored various monasteries and Buddhist art in Bhutan. All went possible because of Sujan and team. We will book another trek soon.
